Job Description

 

The company develops innovative payloads and components e.g. for space surveillance and Earth observation missions. Typical payloads consist of a sensor, a processing unit, an interfacing unit with the space bus, potentially also dedicated power and thermal subsystems.

 

Missions range from GNSS (Galileo & EGNOS), Space based ADS-B surveillance, Exploration missions, Space Debris to imaging using radar or optical instruments. The client’s activities cover conception, design, and development including manufacturing, test and qualification and involves co-operation with internal and external partners. The business development manager is responsible for the creation of new space business opportunities, bids and acquisition of space related projects.

Main responsibilities :

  • The Space Business Development Manager will contribute to the growth of the clients space related business addressing programs, products & services.
  • As part of the Business Development, Sales & Marketing organization she/he will manage the following tasks:

Strategy:

  • Market Analysis:market assessment, understanding of customer needs, competitors assessment.
  • Development of innovative ideas, concepts and solutions for customer problems
  • Develop and maintain business cases for new space business opportunities, producing and updating business plans.
  • Validate that the new space products and solutions are competitive cost-wise and performance-wise.

Marketing:

  • Promotion of the companies space solutions.
  • Provide support to marketing and business capture for the development of support material, sales pack, events and conferences including publications, customer workshops, internal and external training.

Capture:

  • Anticipate & influence market requirements, well before our competitors, hence shaping the   trends.
  • Identify key opportunities, develop capture strategies, implement customer’s engagement plans, and influence CAPEX budget, well before tenders are released.

Bids:

  • Manage or participate to company Bids & Proposals.
  • Preparation of proposals including man effort and other cost estimations
  • Ensure compliance with all the companies’ processes and procedures, including intra-company technical review, financial review, and contractual review and management approvals.
  • Ensure achievement of the clients contractual and financial Bids & Proposal objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all the clients bid management processes and procedures, including development of bid plans, Work Package I task definitions, schedules, budgets, resource requirements and risk management on assigned bids.
  • Ensure that all significant risks of the Bids (i.e. meeting the schedule, cost overrun, etc.) are communicated to management.
  • Co-ordinate activities with bid team sub-contractors, vendors and suppliers
  • Coordinate proper communication between the customer and the bid team.
  • Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company procedures.
  • Ensure all bid team members are effectively managed and motivated to perform at optimum levels. On a case by case basis he/she will be assigned to project management.

Project Management:

  • Provide contract goods and services to the customer on schedule and at the lowest cost consistent with the contract requirements.
  • Ensure achievement of the contractual and financial objectives on all assigned programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all companies’ program management processes and procedures, including development of program plans, task definitions, schedules, budgets, resource requirements and risk management on all assigned programs.
  • Ensure that all significant risks of the Program (i.e. meeting the schedule, cost overrun, etc.) are communicated to management.
  • Co-ordinate activities with sub-contractors, vendors and suppliers
  • Ensure all out of scope directions from the customer and to suppliers are appropriately processed through the contract.
  • Identify contract requirements to and coordinate the activities of internal organizations and individual program team members assigned to the contract.
  • Ensure compliance with all the clients processes and procedures, including intra-company technical review, financial review, and contractual review and management approvals.
  • Coordinate and foster proper communication between the customer and the program team.
  • Identify and acquire additional business as a result of the program.
  • Preparation of proposals including man effort and other cost estimations
  • Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company procedures.
  • Ensure all team members are effectively managed and motivated to perform at optimum levels.

Candidate requirements

Required skills:  
  • Degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics or related technical field with at least 5 years of Program Manager Experience in Space projects or Air Traffic Management or similar domain.
  • Experience managing bids and/or programs including management of requirement uncertainty and development risks. IPMA Certification welcome.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment. Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with employees in all departments and functions.
  • Basic accounting and financial knowledge and profit-oriented business sense as well as effective negotiating skills. Knowledge of ESA, DLR, NextGen and/or SESAR is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Space Engineering and Space Standards: satellite payload and relevant space systems architectures, requirements management and system design tools, applicable norms and standards, implementation , verification , operation, as well as interface and network concepts
  • Knowledge of ESA ECSS suite of standards, familiarisation with payload-specific standards and norms "Team player'', self-motivated
  • Computer proficiency required e.g. MS-Office, DOORS beneficial Willingness of international travel is mandatory
  • Language skills: English and German business fluent, French welcome
